Especially the older you get.
Cell turnover is getting a bit sluggish, requiring light exfoliation to manage buildup.
Cell turnover shows increased signs of slowing. Now’s a good time to incorporate AHAs (+ retinoids) into your routine.
Cell turnover begins to slow way down, upping the need for stronger and more regular exfoliation.
Deep exfoliation becomes key for radiant-looking skin. If you haven’t already, consider incorporating a physical exfoliant.

While we love the benefits of exfoliation, we also really love a healthy skin barrier. Our formulas use powerful exfoliating ingredients in a way that works smarter, not harsher, to resurface skin. They also contain nourishing, barrier-supportive ingredients like squalane and ectoin to help keep skin stay balanced and resilient. In short: no harm done, upsides only.
Chemical exfoliation uses acids or enzymes to dissolve dead skin cells. Physical exfoliation manually scrubs the surface of skin to remove buildup and debris.
Worth noting: As you get older and skin cell turnover slows down, more physical exfoliation is needed to lift away a thicker layer of dead skin cells.
Great q. This is the gentlest form of exfoliation, which you can find in Your Favorite Ex™ Deep-Down Exfoliating Gel. It uses natural enzymes (usually derived from fruits) to dissolve dead skin cells. Unlike harsher acids, enzymatic exfoliation removes only the outermost layer of dead skin cells to reduce the risk of irritation while boosting clarity and brightness.
No need to pick one. We love the pads for quick and easy resurfacing and the gel for a full skin reset.
Reach for the pads to brighten and smooth skin in a swipe, especially if on the go. Reach for the gel if you’re dealing with excess buildup, dry/flaky skin, or clogged pores, like after a full day of wearing makeup or travel, and you have a few extra minutes to spare.
The older you get, the more often you should exfoliate. Beyond that: no hard and fast rules. Our founder swears by daily exfoliation for a healthy-looking glow. Your skin will tell you if you’re overdoing it.
We recommend Your Favorite Ex™ Exfoliating Pads for use in the AM, after Take it Off Gel-Oil Cleanser and before Morning Cocktail Vitamin C Serum. Of course, Skin Glow SPF 30 Primer is a must. If using in the evening, avoid applying retinol.
You can use Your Favorite™ Ex Deep-Down Exfoliating Gel in the morning or evening:
AM: after Take it Off Gel-Oil Cleanser and before Morning Cocktail Vitamin C Serum + Skin Glow SPF 30 Primer
PM: after Take it Off Gel-Oil Cleanser and before The Problem Solver Brightening Treatment + Xtremely Rich™ Moisturizer
Do not use both exfoliating products in the same day to avoid over-exfoliation.
Don't apply Last Call Retinol Serum after using Your Favorite Ex™ Exfoliating Pads. You can use the pads in the AM (with SPF) and retinol in the evening.
If using Your Favorite Ex™ Deep-Down Exfoliating Gel in the evening, alternate between using Last Call Retinol Serum and the gel. We like using the gel 2-3x a week.
Totally. Clearing your skin of dry, flaky skin and stubborn buildup is going to help your makeup look even better. Plus, any skincare you used to prime your skin will absorb better.
Absolutely. It's the prep step your final look deserves.
We don't make anything that's bad for your barrier.
Both our exfoliating pads and our gel are formulated to resurface skin without compromising your skin barrier. In fact, our gel is clinically shown to help repair it.
